New Year-New Fire-Fresh Oil

As I write this blog post we are several days into Hanukkah, the festival of lights.  I have written about Hanukkah and it’s meaning in past years so I will only say that it is an incredible memorial of the essential miracle-working power of the Holy Spirit which we would all do well to remember in our day to day lives.

Scripture tells us that today,  we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.(1 Cor.6:19-20)  We carry that sanctified oil of the spirit within us.  The Menorah Shamash- the center candle- the servant candle used to light each candle through out the week- is a beautiful symbol of Messiah Jesus who the writer John calls the Light of the World. In the original story, the precious sanctified oil was necessary to light the  large candle stand within the Holy Place. It was to burn 24 hours a day the solo illumination in a dark tabernacle of precious symbols pointing to the coming Messiah.

That oil, a picture of the Holy Spirit is still as essential today as it was at the original Hanukkah, to cleanse and prepare the temple after the defilement wrought by Antiochus Epiphanes of the Seleucid Empire way back in 171 BC.  We, as a flawed but forgiven, redeemed priesthood of believers, are called to carry the Light of the World, the Gospel message through a filthy and dark world.  We must depend on a constant topping off, relying on the cleansing work of this miracle working anointing oil to keep ourselves sanctified for worship and empowered for that ministry.

As I look toward 2017 I want to really hone in with on the prophetic. We have all prayed our way through a nasty election and should not lessen those important efforts going forward. These are perilous and historic times!  As we approach the end of the holiday season and an exhausting personal year, I am ready for a fresh anointing.  I am praying for MORE! I crave that fire of the Holy Spirit the Lord has shown me in my dreams and am hungry for the heat of it.   I am truly excited by the signs of the times I see happening in the world and have a renewed drive to keep watching from the wall, teaching and sharing through this blog.  I am hoping that more of my readers will open up, ask questions, or ask for prayer needs and share openly what the Lord is doing in their lives.

I am excited by the many dreams the Lord is giving, not only to me, but to my friends  and associates-preparing and encouraging us for the job at hand and the times to come. I am looking forward to sharing many of those with you in coming weeks.  There is a balance needed which is often missed in our churches. We must continue to preach the Gospel of Salvation through Jesus but we must not ignore or neglect to teach the vital importance of his Holy Spirit.  His is the pictured oil that flows from the Heart of the Father, that promotes the Name of Jesus.  It is the Holy Spirit anointing which dedicates us for continued service and empowers the gifts and miracles which confirm that we serve the One True God and his name is Jesus.

Happy Hanukkah!
