The Crazy Train

I saw a poll on the news this morning declaring that nearly 60% of the folks polled believe that the world is going to hell in a hand basket! Yes, those were the exact words used in the poll!  While I do believe that a good many people are going to Hell in a hand basket I find it pretty amazing that so many people agree with me!

thK9FPEOSU However, anyone who reads a newspaper or watches TV anymore must have the feeling that the Crazy Train has left the station, and it is hurtling down the tracks taking all reason with it!

From the perceived safety of my mountain hide-away and hopefully far removed from any scheduled Crazy Train stops, I have been keeping a “weather eye” on the continuing developments of the 2nd generation of Ebola.Let me say that I don’t think panic is warranted.  I am more panicked and shocked by the never-ending parade of stupidity of people who should know better.

Without pounding home all the well know lapses of judgment made by everyone from the White House, CDC , Presbyterian Hospital and “wedding planning” nurse we shake our heads in disbelief.  I am left with the  sad knowledge that my 8 year old granddaughter, Katie, could slap on her tiara and make faster, better, common-sense, problem-solving decisions than ANY of the folks on the list above!

The incredible, shining light in this whole mess is that so far, all those folks that were crammed in that tiny, one bathroom apartment with Ebola Guy, Thomas Duncan, have not developed any symptoms.  That is the promising take-away in this entire Ebola scare.

The really vital things to remember while watching Ebola news and all the other important World events that have pretty much been eclipsed by the continual looping coverage of the Ebola scare are:

*Fear is a spirit and not from a good source.  It can paralyze you.  2 Timothy 1:17 reminds us that God has NOT given us a spirit of Fear; but of POWER and of LOVE and a SOUND MIND!!  Check out          1 John 4:18 , as well.

th8HASCXWP*None of us lives forever. Therefore, if you have never accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior then today is a perfect time to do so! Just because your parents were Christians or Grandma took you to Vacation Bible School doesn’t mean that you are a Christian.  You must make it personal.  Repent of your sins, and acknowledge Jesus as Lord of your life.  It’s a relationship.  Email me.  If you are one of the host of Believers that wandered away or never produced any “fruit” in your Christian life then today is an excellent day to change that and get back on track with that long forgotten relationship!  Email me.

*If you, as a Christian, have never experienced the Baptism of the Holy Spirit which enables you to fully tap into everything He has to offer and all the power that you need to be effective and BOLD in your Christian life, then you need to do it, you are burning daylight!  Email me.

*I think we have all seen in the past weeks, on a variety of fronts,  that government doesn’t seem qualified to take care of my dog(if I had one!) much less my health and well 2In my last post, Ebola Guy, I wrote about a variety of past, serious epidemics that should spur us to prepare for unexpected disasters and epidemics that may keep us at home for awhile.  Please Prepare.

* Pray for our nation. Pray for our leaders and for the Peace of Jerusalem.  Psalms 122:6 and 1 Timothy 2:1-2 both give very declarative instructions that we are to do this.   We need to be praying at all levels for our leaders to repent, to be overwhelmed with Godly revelation, that they would be influenced by Godly intelligent people and then, to have the courage to act upon the revelation and influence they receive. Prayer changes things. Do not stay home on Election Day. Vote.

* Rejoice Always. I’m afraid this is non-optional.  If all I ever do is grouse and complain or worry about things then, what I am really revealing is that I don’t think God is in charge. He needs my help(worry) or I don’t think He is up to the job. I can acknowledge that a situation is dire and then Praise the Lord  and gift wrap it and give Him the problem so that He can handle it!  Our words and attitudes reveal our core beliefs.  If I am not rejoicing in every circumstance then what I am projecting to my family , friends and co-workers is that I do not really believe that The Lord of the Universe, the All powerful Creator, the Wonderful, Counselor whojoy 6 came and died for my Eternal salvation is quite up to dealing with whatever it is I happen to be fussing about today, be it health, finances, epidemics, relationships or anything else. If you find that you are having trouble in this area you need to be spending more time becoming grounded in the Word of God; Getting familiar with just how big your Savior is: John 4:24,Philippians 4:4, Psalms 91:1-16, 1 John 4:18,Psalms 5:11, 1 Thessalonians 5:16, Hebrews 4:12.

th2MNV3E75*  If you are a passenger on that Crazy Train that just left the station you don’t need to stay on it! Get off at the next stop, re-prioritize your life, and let’s get busy doing what we need to be doing! Matthew 28:18-10, Luke 24:45-49, John 1:9-13.

What a wonderful, upbeat post! Thank you, Sally! And your granddaughter is adorable!

  3. Miss Sally, There is a lot of confusion in this house (& maybe others) as to exactly what you mean by the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit”. I say when you accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord of your life that you receive His Holy Spirit and that “Baptism” is the public profession of faith in Jesus. Please set us straight! Love the thought provoking topics and applications to real everyday life!

Sorry that it has taken so long to reply publically. That is a great question and often misunderstood so I am glad you asked for clarification. I put a new page called Holy Spirit 101 and this page is totally dedicated to answering this question as it is a pretty big topic for a blog post. Hope that you will check it out and please let me know if you still have any questions.
I so appreciate your love of God’s Word and that you are continuing to be hungry for more!
